I often hear Internet personalities such as Leo Laporte advertise a web service called Gotomeeting. The service allows you to share your desktop with other individuals over the Internet. Gotomeeting includes voice and text chat for a hands free approach to your web meeting. The catch? It costs a whopping $49 Ameridollars a month. Which is fine for a business that can write off the service, but what about everyone else?
Dimdim is the free solution to this problem. Dimdim allows you to create an account free and host your own meeting with a strong feature list. Dimdim also has an opensource version if you are looking to run this kind of software internally on your corporate network.
You had me at free
I hosted a meeting with a friend the other night to try it out. We found that you can have up to 20 users listening but only 3 or 4 users on microphone. I could not imagine why I would ever need more people on microphone but to each their own.
More in depth user documentation located at:

Emphasis on mobility
A phone in option is also available, where users can call from a touch tone telephone and listen to the meeting. I attempted to join the meeting through Skype but was put on hold for over ten minutes before giving up.
No software installation required. The service uses built in browser features and the Adobe Flash plug-in. This will work on a netbook just as well on a gaming pc. Mac, pc and Linux compatible. There really isn’t much to complain about here.
I’m going to use this service every single chance I get. I hope to find a reason to use the pro service Dimdim offers in the future. Good software deserves our support!

Bradley-
Thanks for this great Dimdim write-up. Our free web conferencing goes beyond just desktop sharing, allowing you to share slides, whiteboards, web pages, audio/host video, and to record your sessions.
Thanks!

For serious business meetings with full audio and face to face video conferencing, you need to give http://www.hexa2.com’s Virtual Board Room a serious look. It starts at $10 a month for 4 participants. Virtual Board Room and Virtual Town Hall are the next generation telepresence products that far exceed any other products out there.

Great information. For a more personalized approach, you might check out RHUB Web Conferencing. We use it because we are able to use our brand on the conference…our clients go to our website rather than going to a third party site.
